Ernie Hubbard is a cell biologist, biochemist and geneticist with a passion for discovery about human wellness, vitality, the environment and healthy aging.

After studying philosophy, religion and art in the '60s and early '70s, followed by organic farming in Oregon, Ernie earned his BSc in Biochemistry /Genetics at Oregon State University in 1977. He pursued graduate studies at the University of Minnesota, where he specialized in molecular/developmental genetics. He has a 40+ year background in empirical research, theoretical models, and "outside-the-box" thinking.

Ernie has helped launch a number of enterprises over the years in the fields of health, food, agriculture, publishing and wellness. These include two biotechnology companies (Sungene and BioSource), an organic rice company (PureHarvest), a publishing enterprise (Ashlar Press), and his present company Izmara, a skincare line (www.Izmara.com).

Ernie’s interest in water ranges from agriculture to cellular hydration. Growing up the son of an agricultural water lawyer and the grandson of farmers, Ernie is sensitive to the role water plays in both the production of food, feed and fiber as well as the critical role it plays in the sustenance of our ecosystem. As a cell biologist Ernie has studied the role of water in cellular hydration, membrane transport, energy metabolism and aging.

Ernie has been actively involved in business planning, strategic development, fund-raising, licensing and marketing since the early 1980’s. He has written more than 100 business plans and he has raised more than $30 million over this period including equity capital, loans, grants, licensing agreements and acquisitions.

Ernie currently lives aboard his floating home in southern Marin County, where he continues his research in human vitality, works on his skincare line, consults with friends, tends his herb garden and plays (at the) guitar.
