John’s expertise is in Corporate Development, Strategic Planning and in New Product and New Technology Commercialization.  He has significant expertise in liquid filtration and purification.

In addition to WIA, John mentors entrepreneurs through involvement with MedTech Innovator (Los Angeles) and Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship (Minneapolis).  He is a member of the advisory board of Terapore Technologies, an advanced membrane filtration platform with initial focus on bioprocessing (San Francisco) and was previously a BOD member for GMSI, a designer of advanced materials for semiconductor processing (Phoenix).

Through Lemnos Advisory, which he founded, he provides strategic advice to operating companies and financial firms.  He provides strategic advice and transaction expertise as an Industry Partner to Tamarack Partners (Minneapolis).  He is presently working with Mangrove Equity Partners (Tampa) seeking investments in private companies whose products support the municipal and industrial water quality sector.

John’s corporate career consisted of 33 years of progressively responsible management experience at 3M, where he gained significant global experience in a variety of technologies and industries.  While at 3M, he held senior positions in corporate development, new business leadership, quality management and technology management in industrial, advanced materials and healthcare divisions.  He led and participated in numerous acquisitions, equity investments and divestitures in North America, Europe and Asia including deals that built out corporate platforms in membrane filtration, advanced materials, industrial adhesives and supply chain execution / automatic identification technologies.  During the last 5 years of his corporate career, John led strategic planning and business development for the Separation and Purification Sciences division of 3M, and gained significant global perspective and expertise in water purification.

John holds Ph.D. and M.S degrees in Chemistry from Northwestern University; an MBA from the Carlson School of Management / University of Minnesota and a B.S. in Chemistry from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
